Hexalen Dosage

Your Hexalen dosage will be calculated based on your body surface area, which is measured using your height and weight. This chemotherapy drug comes as a capsule that is taken four times daily, after meals and at bedtime. It is usually taken for 14 to 21 days in a row, followed by a one- to two-week break in treatment.

An Introduction to Dosing With Hexalen

The dose of Hexalen® (altretamine) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

  • Your height and weight
  • How you respond to the medication
  • Side effects you may experience.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

What Is the Recommended Hexalen Dosage?

The usual recommended dosage of Hexalen for treating ovarian cancer (cancer of the ovaries) is based on your body surface area, which is calculated using your height and weight. Hexalen is normally taken four times a day for 14 to 21 days in a row, followed by a 7- to 14-day break. You will not take any doses during this break.

If you experience certain Hexalen side effects, such as persistent nausea and vomiting, low blood cell counts, or nerve problems, you may need to temporarily stop taking the medication. Once your symptoms improve, your healthcare provider may choose to restart the medication at a lower dose.
