About Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of cells in the ovaries -- a pair of organs in the female reproductive system located in the pelvis. The disease is relatively common -- approximately 1 in every 69 women in the United States will develop it during her lifetime. Symptoms include abnormal vaginal bleeding, abdominal discomfort, and nausea. However, symptoms typically don't appear until the cancer is more advanced. Treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
