Ovarian Cancer Home > Cisplatin for Ovarian Cancer

Available only by prescription, cisplatin is a type of chemotherapy medication approved to treat several types of cancer, including testicular cancer, bladder cancer, and ovarian cancer.
When used for treating ovarian cancer, cisplatin can be used in combination with other chemotherapy medications to treat metastatic ovarian cancer in women who have already received surgery and/or radiation treatment.
Cisplatin is part of a group of medications called platinum analogues. Also, as a type of chemotherapy medicine, cisplatin works to kill cells (including cancer cells and normal cells) by causing abnormal linkages in DNA, the genetic material of cells.
