The diagnosis of ovarian cancer will affect women differently, and the way each woman responds will vary. Try not to compare yourself to others who may be going through a similar situation. Allow yourself time to sift through the emotions you are feeling. Once you are comfortable telling your friends and family about what you're going through, try to plan ahead for what you are going to say and how you might answer their responses.
There is no perfect way to handle your interactions with others. There will be times where you will be ready and willing to talk about things, and other times when you are just angry or sad and don't want any form of communication with anyone. Don't be too hard on yourself during these times. Part of getting through the emotional turmoil that comes with cancer treatment is to work through your feelings -- be they sadness, anger, resentment, or just plain grief.
Don't just put on a "happy face" -- be honest with those you trust. You will need them for support and encouragement as you go on your journey through cancer treatment. When you're being honest, they will be able to know how help you and give you the support you need.
